10 Best Vampire Video Games
9. Vampyr
Vampyr is a game of two halves. Suffering from clunky, repetitive combat, its easy to dismiss at first glance. But its main hook - the fact that you can kill virtually ANY NPC in the game - quest-giver or not, is where it truly excels.
Set during the Spanish Flu epidemic in 1918 London, players are thrust into the shoes of Doctor Jonathan Reid, a recently turned vampire.
Waking up and realizing in his bloodlust he killed his sister Mary, Reid sets out on a journey to get some answers. What follows is an extremely well written and interesting plot which will keep you captivated from beginning to end.
The biggest feature of this game, however, is that you can kill literally anyone, and the narrative adapts. There is a balance throughout, as the more people you kill the stronger Jonathan becomes and the easier the game gets. Conversely, if you follow this route, you risk losing interesting characters, story points or even entire quests.
Few games offer up this absolute freedom when it comes to how you play, and Vampyr excels in this department. While its combat may be flawed this premise and its fascinating narrative will have you sat through until the credits roll.
