10 Best Video Game Cities You Must Explore

9. File City - Digimon World

the amazing spider man game

This one is probably a very niche choice to many but File City was an integral part of what was really an outstanding game in Digimon World. Arriving on the original PlayStation around the turn of the millennium, Digimon World offered several RPG and world building features that could be considered fairly ahead of their time.

One of these features was File City. The player first arrives in File City after being sucked into the digital world of the Digimon. The once bustling city is now a ghost town and the surrounding world of File Island is in danger. It is the players task is to bring the residents of File City back and save the digital world. While doing so, the player will meet various Digimon in the wild who they must defeat in battle with their own trained Digimon. Once victorious a dialogue will open in which the player can invite the Digimon back to the city.

These Digimon do not just simply return to the city and stand about doing nothing, they help rebuild the city to its former glory. From a Augmon who opens a bank to a Palmon who allows the farm to grow Giant meat instead of regular meat (yes Meat grows in a field) the rewards for rebuilding the city were far more than just cosmetic and really helped you feel like you were doing more than just playing through an action RPG and not to mention the File City soundtrack was a low key banger.

While most were watching and playing Pokemon at the turn of the millennium, Digimon was a welcomed rival and with games like Digimon World and aspects like File City is it a shame that the digital monsters have not remained as relevant as their pocket based brethren.
