8. Yakuza 0's Stupidly Awesome Michael Jackson Tribute
In possibly one of the finest side-missions in gaming history, Yakuza's always irreverent and loveably quirky nature saw Sega create a version of Michael Jackson called 'Miracle Johnson', who wants a hand filming the in-game version of what is ostensibly his Thriller video.
Translation? Fighting zombies whilst Johnson does high-kicks and moonwalks in the middle of the crowd.
You'll first hear word of the 'Popstar Prince' coming to Kamarucho from various citizens, and upon meeting up with him, everything about the ensuing cutscenes and gameplay is pitch-perfect. First up, there's director 'Steven Spining' (a wide-eyed, uber-happy take on Spielberg), and the fact that Miracle himself only talks in "WOO!"s and "chicka-chicka"s. Even when remarking on your demeanour, he notes that Kiryu being shy is "just human nature" (taken from Jackson's own song, Human Nature).
Upon completing the level which is comprised of fending off zombies to protect Johnson, there are two more awesome nods before the mission is over.
First, Miracle rewards you with a choice between a massive black box and a tiny white one ("Black or White" was one of Jackson's biggest hits) which also doubles as a metaphor for his own split-race image/career as time would dictate. Lastly, Kiryu states "at least I don't have to fight zombies again" - a nod to Yakuza: Dead Souls; the franchise's own zombie-blasting spin-off from 2012.
