Gothic 2, Piranha Bytes' 2002 RPG, is a game that pretty much forces you to join a faction. You can't progress through the story without picking a group that you wish to support, so you would think that the developers would at least give you a large selection of guilds and organizations to choose from.

Well, no. You have to pick between three groups: the paladins, the mercenaries, and the fire mages, while the most compelling and interesting faction, the water mages, gets to warm the bench somewhere on the side.

The water mages are a religious faction, just like the fire mages and the Paladins, but unlike the other two factions, they worship the neutral god of balance and harmony, Adanos.

Their unique philosophy, combined with their own school of magic and stylish blue robes, make them the perfect alternative faction for spellcasters that don't want to join the fire mages.

Unfortunately, the best thing you can get is an associate status with the water mages. You can't even find a copy of their signature robes, so if you're looking to become a mage, get used to wearing red every day!
