10 Best Video Game Final Bosses Of All Time

8. Mother Brain - Super Metroid

ODIN God of War Ragnarok
Nintendo

Super Metroid had some of the finest bosses on the SNES, and that is some steep competition. From Samus' rematch with Ridley and the fight with the reimagined Kraid to, naturally, Samus' second encounter with Mother Brain.

At first it's much the same fight as the original game, with Mother Brain trapped in one place while Samus has to wear them down with her blaster. But then Mother Brain pulls out their super secret special move: turning into a Giger-esque dinosaur monster made of meat, cybernetics, and nightmares. I hate it when bosses do that.

Mother Brain quickly makes short work of Samus but the baby Metroid comes in clutch to sacrifice itself for her just in the nick of time, giving Samus the power to tell Mother Brain to taste the rainbow.

A bit more cinematic than the other bosses in this game, but hey, it's the final boss, that kind of thing is more tolerable. And even then, the game still remembers to make every phase a proper boss fight in its own right. The first phase is a nice update from the original on the NES, while the second one is a desperate struggle for survival, that turns into a triumphant smackdown.
