Similar to Red Dead Redemption, there's something about sitting outside a tavern in the middle of a tropical Caribbean island playing a historical minigame that just feels so right in Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, as opposed to what was available in the games in the series prior.

Players have the option of picking up any one of three tabletops taken straight from the history books in the game, with checkers being perhaps the most obvious to people. The games have different difficulties depending on where they're played in the game, but Fanarona and Checkers are both pretty similar and shouldn't take too long for players to get to grips with.

Men's Morris is a little different however, requiring players to make 'mills' by placing three of their pieces along a straight line. The game has three different phases: placing, moving and flying, and the end goal is to take as many of the opponent's pieces off the board, whilst building out as many mills of their own as they can.

All three of these games require a decent amount of strategy and can produce the odd challenge that will see players lose some of their plundered treasures, but they make for a nice change of pace from all the swashbuckling action going on around the game.
