People who don't play too many games might not believe it, but Zelda conspiracy theorists are real. Egged on by Nintendo's tenuous connections, references and easter eggs throughout the Zelda franchise over the years, a whole community of Zelda players convinced themselves that the seemingly stand-alone titles were, in fact, all connected.

Even more surprising? They were right.

They were also right that the story spans three separate timelines. However, while Nintendo didn't waste time confirming that Breath Of The Wild takes place close to the end of the timeline, they never said which one.

The game is packed full of easter eggs from across the series. There's no way to reconcile them all existing in one timeline, so many assumed they were just for fun.

Especially of note are three "leviathan" skeletons found in the world. Early on, fans figured out that these bones resembled three magical, whale-like characters. However, they don't all exist in one timeline. So just more fun, right?

However, Nintendo later confirmed that Breath Of The Wild takes place at the end of all the timelines, thus revealing that at some point, something happens that crashes the different universes into one - an event that's almost sure to be part of a future game.
