3. Celeste - Super Mario Bros. 3 Block
Celeste is a beautiful game. Playing as both love letter to classic, difficult platform games and modern counterparts like Super Meat Boy and Braid, it's an instant classic.
Much like its peers, it also sneaks in the occasional homage to its roots, showing that it's not beyond sharing the love for the genre.
One of the game's less obvious homages (unless you're old enough to have played it) pays tribute to Super Mario Bros. 3 on the NES. In World 1-3, towards the end of the level, crouching on a white block (like in the picture above) for several seconds allowed to go behind the scenery. This nifty trick let you reach one of the games hidden aides: the warp whistle.
Much like its thirty year old contemporary, this block has a similar effect. Crouching on it for a few seconds sees heroines Madeline drop behind it, allowing her to scale the level on the background blocks and reach the rewarding Crystal Heart.
