10 Best Video Game Sequels Of All Time

9. Chrono Cross

Well, this one's going to be contentious, as some twenty years later gamers still argue over whether it's a sequel or "spiritual successor". It's in the same universe, ergo: sequel.

It may have divergent gameplay from its predecessor (which is one of the main moans about sequel validation), but that doesn't matter. Chrono Cross takes a new spin on the active battle/turn-based combat, with a magic system akin to item use, to keep things fresh and interesting.

But that's not just why it's great, it's the story it tells too.

It's hard to encapsulate without spoiling, but Chrono Cross continues a narrative laid down in Trigger. Not necessarily with the same protagonists, but with enough of the world building to make an exciting adventure.

Time travel, death and rebirth, the narrative of fate and predeterminism... it's all there, wrapped up in those beautifully rendered (for the time) FMV's that Squaresoft used to put out.

For those on the fence, what better time to jump in now that it's been recently remastered for current gen consoles?
