8. Mega Man Legends 3

During the 1980s and 1990s, Mega Man was among the most popular action-platformers. So when big franchises like Super Mario and Final Fantasy transitioned to 3D, the Blue Bomber did the same with the spin-off series, Mega Man Legends. Even though the PC and N64 versions were dire, the PlayStation port received positive reviews, inspiring a sequel on the system two years later.

But when Legends 2 underperformed, it didn't look like a third outing would be likely. But after a decade-long hiatus, the series' producer, Keiji Inafune, announced Mega Man: Legends 3 for the 3DS was a go.

Now, fans are usually skeptical when a long-awaited sequel is announced, simply because it sounds too good to be true. However, these concerns were seemingly put to rest since Capcom was so hands-on with this project. Not only did they set up a website to keep gamers updated with the Legends 3's development, they kept the fans entertained with contests, polls, and events.

But it was all for nought. One year later, a message was posted on the site, blunting stating Legends 3 hadn't "met the required criteria", causing it to be nixed.
