2014's ghostly mystery action game Murdered: Soul Suspect opens with the main character, Ronan O'Connor, being - well, as the title suggests, murdered. He's thrown out of a window on a brisk night in witchy Salem, Massachusetts. And for good measure his killer puts a whole clip in his chest.

The rest of the game, playing as Ronan's ghost trying to solve a murder mystery - including his own murder, takes you to various locales of Salem. From a church to a museum, a police station to an asylum. But for all the traveling, investigation, and deathly flashbacks our ghostly anti-hero witnesses, it all takes place over the course of a single night.

From Ronan's murder to his eventual resolution of the Bell Killer case, the sun never rises on his adventures. The ending has a positive note with his long-dead wife, Julia, possibly opening a portal to heaven so he can join her. Or it could also be the developers leaving open sequel bait that never came because the game didn't sell well enough for Square-Enix to give it another night.
