10 Best Visceral Video Games - Ranked

9. The Simpsons Game

The Simpsons Game 2007
EA

It might have replaced the arcade cabinet of the same name in the minds of many 90s gamers, but 2007's "The Simpsons Game" was an altogether more accomplished beast.

Utilising then-in vogue cel shading to bring Springfield to life, this featured a completely original story, featuring the main five realising they're in a video game. Cue all manner of pop culture gaming references, the inclusion of 8-bit renders of the cast, The Sims creator Will Wright and a supremely fun, uber-fat Homer to roll around the place.

This was the pinnacle of EA using their production values for good, creating the video game equivalent in terms of effort, authentic cast and story in game form as the Simpsons Movie that was also released in the same year.
