10 Best Xbox One Games Of 2018
2. Ashen
Yes, everyone and their mother has compared this game to Dark Souls, but that's not a bad thing. Besides, there's plenty more to like here than just 'Dark Souls but with bright colors.' The game incorporates themes of light and dark but do so in a way that your accomplishments visibly improve the world around you.
You get to interact with people within a world, each of which having their own perspectives on just how bleak things really are. The game offers a glimpse at a reality that could be something wonderful if you save it, so you're far more inclined to go out and brave the dangers of this world. Helping your quest is the game's perfectly-suited combat that wears its Souls inspiration unashamedly while still putting their own spin on the roll-heavy fighting system.
If Ashen was Xbox's Bloodborne, then they certainly could've done a lot worse. Coming from a far smaller studio and being available for all Xbox Games Pass members on release day, there's no reason anyone should miss this. Trust that this Souls-like title is far from just a unimaginative copycat.
