10 Best Xbox One Multiplayer Games You Can Play Offline

5. Divinity: Original Sin (Enhanced Edition)

Larian Studios

I've written several times now about how not enough attention is given to Divinity: Original Sin - a rich RPG that may not have the visual lustre of The Witcher 3 or Fallout 4, but easily matches its formidable rivals when it comes to story and combat mechanics. Divinity even wins out over its rivals in one aspect - namely the multiplayer.

Obviously, it's a walkover victory considering the other games are single-player-only, but the Enhanced Edition went all out in making the multiplayer a captivating and brilliantly-designed experience. You and a friend can play through the entire story together, with the game seamlessly switching between split-screen and single-screen depending on the players' locations in relation to each other. Mercifully, you both have separate menu screens too, so won't need to wait while your partner micro-manages their inventory and skills (which the both of you will be doing a lot).

The tactics-heavy combat system is turn-based, so you and your buddy will need to communicate closely on the best strategies for each encounter. With its slow-burning story, rich character development systems, and a fascinating world that you're free to explore, Divinity isn't a co-op game you dive into for 10 minutes, but one you commit to for tens of hours. So make sure the friend you pick for it is one you can be in a room with for extended periods of time (as opposed to the 'fun-for-10-minutes, unbearable beyond that' kind of friend).
