10 Biggest Concerns With Upcoming 2023 Video Games

6. Hack-And-Slash Direction - Dragon Age: Dread Wolf

Dragon Age: Dread Wolf has been a highly anticipated title amongst the series' fans ever since it was teased in Inquisition's DLC, Trespasser. Those who played the previous games are obviously looking forward to seeing where the story goes next; however, there are also those who are concerned about the direction the game is taking gameplay-wise.

A recent leak revealed that Dreadwolf will be more of a hack-and-slash title, which, knowing BioWare's history of chasing trends, is likely due to the massive success of God of War: Ragnarok last year. This in itself is not terrible, of course; however, BioWare's attempts at replicating the success of other franchises usually don't end well. For example, Inquisition's open world was heavily inspired by Skyrim, but in comparison, the open regions in the former feel really bleak and devoid of things to explore.

The same can happen to Dreadwolf's combat. Since the developers have never dabbled with hack-and-slash content before, it will likely feel very underwhelming when compared to veterans of the genre like God of War or Devil May Cry. This naturally has some of the fans upset, as combat is one of the core elements of Dragon Age's gameplay, and it deserves to be better than just a watered-down replica of a better system.
