1. Resident Evil 6
Disappointing as the above games were, none of them let us down in such a definite fashion as Resident Evil 6, a game that proves once and for all that Capcom don't really care about retaining the classic Resident Evil style and tone, and are keen to gravitate more towards an action-centric, Call of Duty-esque style in order to maximise their target audience. Though the focus on more action began with Resident Evil 4, at least that game was still scary and steeped somewhat in its survival horror origins, even if the games became easier as a result (albeit less frustrating, also). Still, Resident Evil 6 is a game that just gets so much wrong; the tripartite campaign is admirable, but when only one of them feels even remotely like a RE game, it's clear that something is wrong. Chris' campaign is especially dull, running around the same generic locales, fighting infected enemies who, yep, can now fire guns, one of the more ridiculous flourishes that the series has come up with. The clunky mechanics - such a being able to kill a zombie with melee combat quicker than you can a weapon - don't help much, nor the overly obvious map restrictions and the frankly pretty boring narrative. Resident Evil has never been the hallmark of brilliant storytelling, but this time even feigning a passing interest proves difficult. What was your biggest gaming disappointment of 2012?
