2. The Walking Dead Redefines Episodic Gaming

I don't know about you lot, but I've always written off episodic gaming as a cheap, hokey gimmick used when developers don't have a fully formed idea or aren't confident enough that their project is actually going to be a success. Telltale Games proved us all wrong, then, with The Walking Dead, a 5-part episodic odyssey that won Game of the Year at the VGAs and has earned not only massive critical acclaim but also fantastic sales also. It's a rare example of a game that's actually a pretty passive gameplay experience compensating for this by drawing the viewer into the emotion and the storytelling. This is far from the typical zombie game we've come to expect; our quest to protect a young girl caught up in the apocalypse, Clementine, is a truly harrowing, heart-wrenching experience, especially once the game reaches its ambiguous and affecting climax. With great voice acting and crackling dialogue, The Walking Dead is proof that you don't need amazing graphics to make a fantastic game, and also that this episodic delivery system
does work.
