10 Biggest Graphical Leaps Between Video Game Sequels
2. Uncharted 3 (2011) To Uncharted 4 (2015) Featuring The Last Of Us (2013)
Something very interesting to think about when pondering a list of biggest leaps of graphics in games is that, more often than not, developers and especially publishers are working on multiple projects. Take Naughty Dog, starting off with Jak and Daxter, moving on to a more mature Uncharted and currently working on The Last of Us. Each game broke different ground for them but The Last of Us undoubtedly made the biggest dent, particularly when combined with the tech of Uncharted 4.
Uncharted was by no means an ugly series but it wasn’t the most beautiful thing you’d ever seen – well, except maybe that train sequence in Uncharted 2. The Last of Us, on the other hand, was one of the most gorgeous, photorealistic games of its time, pushing the PlayStation 3 to its very limits. Mix that beautiful photorealism and rich environmental detail with the movement and faster gameplay of Uncharted and the series saw new life for its final instalment. What blows my mind is that Naughty Dog aren't even done, there is more to be seen with The Last of Us Part 2, especially with the PlayStation 5 and rumours of a PC port.
