Metroid Fusion opens with Samus Aran being infected with an X-Parasite, leaving her critically ill. As the X spreads through her Varia Suit, Galactic Federation scientists have Samu's armour surgically removed to save her.

After the bounty hunter recovers and prepares for her next mission, the X in Samus' disposed armour gains sentience, taking on the appearance of its host. This clone, which is called SA-X, is armed with all of the Varia Suit's upgrades, making her virtually unstoppable.

When Samus is alerted that SA-X is hunting her, she is told not to engage with her doppelgänger under any circumstances.

Because you know you can't defeat SA-X, you heart jumps into your throat every time your devious double appears. Anytime you hear those ominous footsteps echoing across the corridor, you stand deathly still, even when you know SA-X can't see you.

After your callous clone leaves, most players remain motionless for a solid minute, just to make sure she's not coming back. It may seem paranoid, but this level of caution is understandable. If SA-X spots you, there's a very good chance you'll end up as a stain on the wall within seconds.
