10 Biggest Misconceptions You Have About Video Game Developers

4. We Ignore The Fans

GTA 5 Easy Money Guide

Do you know how loud videogame fans are? You’re like that video of the yodelling French bulldog - impossible to ignore, noisy, incoherent and tragically entertaining.

So, how could we possibly ignore you lot?

The thing is, just because a point is made loudly, doesn’t mean that it’s been made well. For every well-meaning, well-thought-out point about a game’s design or overall composition, there are thousands more “fans” making thinly-veiled demands, so how is it possible for any strokes of genius to make it through? For every clever, feasible balance change suggested, there’s an angry teenager telling you “just add a morality system”, like there’s a morality system button you can just... press, in Unity.

Moreover, even if we could take every suggestion in, the chances are (as mentioned previously), we couldn’t act on anything anyway, because we don’t have the power to make those changes.

So, you’re effectively screaming into an enormous tornado made of screams, asking us to sort it out with a handi-vac, but we don’t have permission to turn said vacuum cleaner on yet.

One thing’s for sure - we certainly can’t ignore that.
