10 Biggest PlayStation Risks (That Totally Backfired)

Lair PS3
Sony

Again, not to repeat myself, but this does seem another example of "Sony see, Nintendo do" and try to emulate it. In its defense though, this could have been a good thing, considering the PSone's back catalogue.

So when it was announced that Final Fantasy VII, Resident Evil and Tekken 3 were on there on Sony's retro PS1 emulator, appetites were whet. But then... so were Rainbow Six and Kurushi, weirdly. Why not Gran Turismo, or at a push, Tomb Raider? Or even the vastly superior Resident Evil 2?

Throwing the controllers back to pre-analog sticks pads didn't help matters, as did the poor emulation across some of the titles. Whilst licensing plays a big part, there could have been a better selection of titles from the little grey box's lifetime.

It didn't shift well at its entry price point, nor did it after several cuts. What could have been a lovely little collectible, fuelled with nostalgia, was instead a commercial flop for Sony.

Which is a shame, because as this list has established, Sony has had many a good opportunity to not balls it up. And yet, they still did.
