7. Barbara Gordon Commits Suicide

One such scene occurred at the midway point of the game - after Oracle is taken hostage, Batman follows the trail back to the Chinatown safehouse where he witnesses Barbara Gordon being smothered in Fear Gas. Separated by a wall of reinforced glass, Batman is helpless to do anything as Barbara lifts the gun to her head and blows her brains out in an attempt to end her suffering. It was a truly shocking moment made all the more devastating by the fact that Barbara's abduction and her role in Batman's support team drove a wedge betweeen the Dark Knight and his long-time ally, James Gordon. And although it would later be revealed that Oracle's death was a fear gas-induced hallucination, that doesn't detract from the fact that players were left shaken for hours afterwards. Fear is a constant theme in Arkham Knight, and one of Bruce's greatest fears is being responsible for destroying the lives of everyone around him. Batman's never seemed as vulnerable and helpless as he did in that very moment.
