But that all changes when you meet Legion, whose storyline opens your eyes to the truth behind these misunderstood beings.

Turns out those Geth you've been fighting are actually a splinter group broken off from the majority of the Geth consensus, whom are actually quite peaceful and just want to be left alone to follow their own destiny. So Shepard and Legion go on a quest to either destroy the heretic Geth or rewrite them to join the consensus.

It's up to you, and the beauty of this scenario is how nuanced it is when you consider how much your original understanding of the Geth has changed.
