10 Bizarre Glitches That Actually Improved Video Games

1. The Purple Gem - Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddSEZeBSXRQ Sonic the Hedgehog, which graced the Xbox with its presence back in 2006, is infamous for being one of the most glitch-filled games ever made, and it's a reputation that is utterly deserved on every level. And by every level, we mean every level, 'cause there are glitches filling absolutely every level of the game. Apparently this is partly due to the fact that Sega rushed the game for an early Christmas release and skipped much of the important "game testing" process. It's also probably because Sega are rubbish now, and don't make good games. So the game itself isn't great, but for all its bad programming and coding issues, most of the glitches let you experience the game on a whole new level, as though you've just taken the right pill in The Matrix and have reached a new level of enlightenment. One of the best glitches involves "the Purple Gem," which serves as one of the game's power-ups. This gem transforms Sonic into a life-sized hedgehog (like, a tiny one). That's not a glitch, though - the actual glitch grants Sonic the power to jump as many times as he likes. As in, infinitely. Forever. Basically, then, the whole game becomes a kind of twisted theme park for you to explore. Nowhere is off limits. And there's plenty of weird and crazy stuff to find. The glitch does, in fact, make a rather dull and uninspired game into an exciting and worthwhile one. Maybe Sega, like, knew what... they were doing... all... along? Merry Christmas! Which bizarre glitches that improved games have we missed? Let us know in the comments section below.
