I feel it would be a huge missed opportunity to talk about essential tabletop games and not include the legendary Dungeons and Dragons. Simply put this is the game of games, the king of kings because you literally shape the game into what you want it to be.

Whether you're searching for lost treasures in Dwarven mines or gallavanting around hell itself on a magical laser shooting goat, all things as possible as long as you're willing to use your imagination. And all you really need to get going are one of the many ready made DND Starter kits (and the DND Essentials Kit which has just been released) which provide missions, characters that are pre-made to help get you started and of course, dice.

It can be a little daunting at first but with the right group of people, or even one or two invested siblings you'll be able to craft adventures that will make you all feel like real adventurers and most likely force families to sit down and actually listen to each other in order to solve problems. Think of it as therapy where you get to murder goblins and who would say no to that?

And if this all sounds a bit daunting don't worry as I can also heavily recommend Dungeon Mayhem, a card game which focuses on beating up your opponents in crafty ways, it's much more tactile and accessible plus is done and dusted in around 15-20 mins encouraging a tonne of replayability. Plus its all branded with that DND loveliness so whether you're a dungeon crawler or just taking your first baby steps with the IP, there's something for everyone.
