10 Boss Fights That Play TOTALLY Different To Their Games

3. Rais - Dying Light

The gameplay of Techland’s 2015 survival horror Dying Light is largely focussed on parkour and zombie-decimating combat.

You’ll be keeping an eye out for survivors to save, side missions to cross off, and ways to level up your character to become the undead-swerving slayer of your dreams. That overview out the way, let’s talk about the final boss fight. Your journey brings you face-to-face with Rais, a warlord who stands as the game’s primary antagonist. In short, Rais is a real piece of crap and the idea of unleashing all the abilities you’ve gained and combat techniques you’ve learned onto him is a huge drive in getting to the end of the story.

That is, until the fight begins and you realise the game has swapped all that fan-favourite gameplay for a quick-time heavy boss encounter.

Trading all of its gameplay mechanics for a basic sequence of QTEs is especially bizarre as there are no quick time events throughout the rest of the game. Certainly none that are utilised in what should be hugely impactful encounters with antagonists. You’re on top of a building right in front of the biggest douche in the city and all you can do is wait for button prompts to execute.
