10 Botched Features That Almost Ruined Iconic Video Games
6. Katey's Zombrex In Dead Rising 2
The original Dead Rising forced players to do a lot of micromanaging, but for the most part it maintained a steady balance between having a list of tasks that needed to be accomplished while never interrupting the zombie-killing action for too long or too often. Dead Rising 2 on the other hand went completely overboard with the amount of busywork it had players doing.
Casting players as Chuck, a father hiding in a Vegas-style casino while trying to protect his zombie-bitten daughter Katey, the game required you to always be stocked up on Zombrex that could be used to stave off her infection.
This meant that not only did you need to keep an eye on your Zombrex counter, but you had to constantly return to the safe room at regular intervals to give Katey the medicine, adding yet another countdown timer to a game who's missions were already extremely time-sensitive.
A bit like Far Cry 2's constant search for Malaria tablets, Dead Rising 2's insistence on having you stop what you were doing to tick a box almost ruined the whole experience.
