1. Metal Gear Solid
Or MSG as it is commonly referred to, was an unequivocal smash hit for the PSX and developers Konami, selling 6 million copies worldwide. It is an action-adventure-stealth game which follows Solid Snake as he breaks into a nuclear weapons station to halt the threat of FOXHOUND - a terrorist organisation. As well as stopping FOXHOUND from launching a strike, Snake must liberate two important people - the head of DARPA and the head of a weapons organisation along the way. Critically lauded to ecstatic proportions, MSG on the PSX is widely regarded as one of the greatest games ever made and as such, it is still played and widely discussed among MSG fans. Many regard it as the progenitor of the Stealth genre. In 2002 IGN voted it the best ever PSX game. They stated that the mere demo had more playability in it than many finished titles. It has been praised for its cinematic scope and its influence on other games such as Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell. There have been sequels, prequels, spin offs, comics and novels. But none can compare to the majesty that is Metal Gear Solid on the PSX.
