10 Brilliant Sequels That Saved Dying Video Game Franchises
1. Sonic Mania
Sonic is a franchise fraught with danger. It's provided some genuinely fun games over the years - but also some absolutely undeniable whoppers.
For the most part, the fanbase is torn between nostalgia for many of the beloved past games, and frustration that this nostalgia is often used to market games that were either not properly polished or properly thought through.
Mercifully, this nostalgia can come through at times, as it massively did in the case of Sonic Mania. Since Sonic Mania was comprised of remastered and remixed versions of levels from previous games, it meant you both knew they'd pick the best of the lot, and that they'd all work pretty well because nobody is going to pick a broken level to use in another game.
All in all, it felt sort of like getting into an argument with someone, and then the next day them bringing you a thoughtful gift as an apology - which meant many lapsed fans got back into the series as a result.
