10 Brutal Video Game Opening Levels That GUARANTEED Game Over
7. First Ride - Superman 64
In fairness, Superman 64 is generally accepted to be one of the worst video games of all time, and all it took was playing through its opening level for most players to put the game down and never return.
The game opens with Lex Luthor challenging the Man of Steel to fly through a convoluted maze in order to save his pals, sending the player off on an agonisingly awful loop of flying through rings, saving civilians, flying through more rings, helping the cops, flying through even more rings, beating up the bad guys, and so on.
The controls were awful, the time limit for completing these sections was extremely strict, and missing just three rings resulted in a restart, surely causing countless broken N64 controllers.
To make matters worse, every odd-numbered level in the game followed this ring-flying formula, near enough guaranteeing the mental breakdown of anyone who actually managed to power through to the end.
