10 Changes PS4 Needs To Keep Ahead In The Console War

2. Faster Release Schedule, Better Exclusives

Even the most avid Playstation fan can admit that the first several months for the Playstation 4 have hardly been spectacular. While Sony is claiming they are already expecting to make a profit, actual releases and exclusives for the console worth buying have been slow to say the least. This is almost certainly due to following Nintendo's ill-thought-out approach of prioritising massive launch libraries instead of staggered-but-fast releases (just look at the Wii U and PS Vita to see how well this works out), and the quality of the exclusive titles supposed to sell the machine has hardly helped matters. Having yet to produce a true killer app exclusive games have run the gamut in terms of quality, with Infamous: Second Son receiving critical praise while the likes of Knack were far more divisive. As of yet, there are only a relative few games exclusive to the platform which warrant real attention and few of those offer true longevity or replay value. With slow sales, the Playstation has little to truly make up for the disappointments or hold the attention of fans from one month to the next beyond recycling old experiences or offering something readily available on the Playstation 3. While the system does list many exclusives, these are games which are to be released months from now or even next year. If Sony is to truly succeed in the coming years, they need faster releases and more games exclusive to their new system. Without them their new generation will slowly stagnate and be overtaken by the competition.
