9. Crippo
One more beastie from Super Mario RPG's bestiary, Crippo's are essentially modified Hippos which have been given a lick of brown paint and imbued with the ability of flight. Which is, you know, pretty bizarre in that wonderfully Japanese sort of way.

The Similarities
How can you not draw similarities between two modified brown hippos? The concept is just too bizarre and too specific not to be in some way interrelated. Again, there's no direct rip-off (I'm sure we'd have heard about the lawsuit if there were) but here's one instance where Mario's influence can most definitely be felt in the Pokemon series.
