5. Silent Bomber
Silent Bomber was released in 1999 to good reviews and sales. It was a unique game in the sense that you did not use guns or melee weapons to kill your enemies. Instead, your weaponry consisted of different types of bombs. You either dropped them Bomberman-style or threw them at a locked on target. In its time, it was praised and liked but, once again, it would not be well received if released today. The game-play of Silent Bomber would be repetitive and uninteresting in today's gaming industry. The only weapon available to the player is bombs, not many types of bombs either. With the gamer of today expecting a high number methods of killing available to them, this would not be enough. Gamers would be left wanting more, a lot more. It's not that gamers need more, it's that we expect more. Some may think that this is because the average age of gamers has increased and this has created a need for more complex games. I don't think this is true ; I think it has been the industry itself that has matured, creating more complex gamers.
Another aspect that would attacked is the narrative. Now, action and adventure games are about more than just the game-play. Gamers want to be sucked into an immersive and fully thought out game world with developed characters, settings and background. Silent Bomber's story would be called simple and unfinished, with the story not being a main focus while it was being developed. This is probably the truth as back in its day, the narrative of a game, especially an action game, was not usually the focus.
