10 Classic Video Games That DON'T Hold Up

1. Tomb Raider (1996)

People like to joke about games being literally unplayable but a lot of elements in the original Tomb Raider do make that an almost accurate descriptor.

Lots of the games on this list can be celebrated for what they established in their respective series and franchises even if they themselves didn’t stand the test of time. Tomb Raider is pretty much the poster child for that concept. Though it was celebrated in 1996 for its unique mix of puzzle solving, platforming, and exploration, it really hasn’t aged well.

The polygons are straight up out of control (yes the ones you’re thinking about), the tank controls which were common at the time are pull-your-hair-out level agonising, and the textures make almost every non-Lara thing look like an indecipherable block. The save system that only lets you save at certain points and the camera with a mind of its own don’t help matters either.

We love Lara, we love how far the Tomb Raider series has come, and we love that because there are plenty more great games in it we don’t have to play the original ever again.
