10 Classic Video Games That Play Horribly Today
1. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (Multi)
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim raised the bar for open-world RPGs, but there was an unfortunate side effect of its resounding success. The game's predecessor Oblivion now looks, and plays, like crap.
It's the weightless combat that's tough to revisit after experiencing modern role-playing games. Laying into an Ogre with a sword feels more like attacking a pillow with a stick, and that sort of thing is difficult to stomach in hindsight.
Exploring the world of Oblivion is also a hollow experience. Looking back all these years later, Cyrodiil was as generic as fantasy settings come, and at times, exploring it feels like a soulless slog in search of XP. Graned, the Shivering Isles expansion added some personality, though not to the extent where it's a patch on Skyrim or any of is contemporaries, such as The Witcher 3.
Furthermore, the illusion is shattered when it becomes painfully apparent that only a handful of actors are voicing an entire province of characters, and the hazy visuals only complete this immersion-busting picture.
Bethesda truly spoiled RPG fans with Skyrim, a game so good that it made the critically-acclaimed fourth Elder Scrolls title practically unplayable.
