10 Classic Video Games That Play Horribly Today
7. Assassin's Creed (Multi)
Every time Ubisoft makes a decent Assassin's Creed sequel, the deeply-flawed original only looks more irrelevant by comparison.
It's hard to believe one of the most successful franchises of console gaming's modern age got off to such a ropey start. Clunky controls, dour missions and a modern-day story that feels like an afterthought make it borderline unplayable in 2018.
All of these weaknesses, of course, could be overlooked in 2007, because without the vastly superior sequels as a point of comparison, Assassin's Creed's blend of stealth kills and parkour almost had the makings of a winning formula.
Almost, but not quite. The gameplay barely evolves and soon becomes repetitive and dull, plus the non-player character AI was moronic to the point of distracting. Then there's those dour information-gather quests Altair is forever being sent on. Urgh!
Assassin's Creed is an example of a game which broke new ground in the console sector, but failed to get some of the basics right. Its flaws are jarring, and hard to stomach after playing any of the sequels (except maybe Unity).
