10 Common Misconceptions About Accessibility In Video Games
7. “Nobody Is Interested In That Feature”
How often do you hear this? I hear it a lot, but then again, I visit Gamefaqs.
It’s perhaps the most daft one on this list, because it could really apply to anything - like,“why does the Ben and Jerry’s counter at the cinema have rum raisin as an option? Nobody wants rum raisin!”, or “why do they even offer that channel in standard definition? Nobody watches that!”
Yet, without ever having met any of these people, I know that some guy’s watching the latest Fast and The Furious and chowing down on a dehydrated grape treat, and some little grandma's cracking into a one-hour-late fuzzy omnibus of Come Dine With Me.
Why is it that people insist, because they don’t use something, nobody does?
I reckon it has to be a part of this hyperbolic world we now live in - it’s either “best thing evarr”, or “worst thing in the universe”. It’s either “everyone’s doing it” or “nobody does that!”.
Sometimes, it’s just... sometimes. Sometimes, only some people are interested. And it’s fine if that doesn’t include you. Sometimes.
