Just when it looked as though the PS4 was going to ride through the rest of the generation as the easy winner, Nintendo dropped an atom bomb on the gaming world with the Switch, winning back estranged fans and proving they can still rub shoulders with the big boys after the disaster that was the Wii U.

Not only releasing a compelling console/handheld hybrid which combined their past systems' best features, but the launch lineup and slate of games that came out in the following months gave fans plenty of quality experiences to sink their teeth into, justifying the otherwise experimental machine over and over.

Consequently, with Breath of the Wild becoming an immediate game of the year contender, and the likes of Super Mario Odyssey and Splatoon 2 keeping players busy for months after launch, Nintendo came out of nowhere to throw their hat back into the ring.

After picking up both of Sony and Nintendo's stellar systems and weighing up the pros and cons of each though, it's time to dish out some harsh truths that fans of either console need to hear...
