10 Controversial Video Games That Are Insanely Tame Today

7. Hatred (2015)

Raiden Mortal Kombat
Destructive Creations

2015's relatively unknown top-down murder simulator Hatred has, a mere three years after release, been consigned to the forgotten annals of indie video game obscurity. Boring, clunky, and so visceral and malicious as to be overtly inane, few had anything good to say about this black-and-white shooting spree when it first released.

However, at one point, the game looked as if it might never see the light of day as an adults only ESRB rating meant that Steam wouldn't sell it. The premise and imagery included in the game were enough to shock and offend much of the gaming populace, but the outrage was quickly outed as having been manufactured by an indie studio eager to drum up some press coverage.

Artistically bereft and wholly uninteresting, Hatred may have a small cult following today, but it certainly didn't live up to the likes of its controversial video game forefathers. It can be picked up for pennies on the dollar today, though even curious Steam users should think twice before wasting their time with this waste of digital space.
