Ever since the release of Grand Theft Auto III, the GTA franchise has been the bane of every parent€™s existence. Not only is it popular, which puts social pressure on young people to experience it for themselves, but the freedom the games give you allows you to do some truly terrible things.

It also doesn€™t help that the games are genuinely good, offering clever and satirical representations of modern American culture, though that isn€™t why most people play it. The criminal nature of the story and the setting are just too intriguing for anyone, let alone kids, to pass up. Everything a parent tries to hide from their child can be found in any one of the GTA games, including copious amounts of violence, sex, swearing, drug use, prostitutionand adult humour.

Of course gamers know that there are far worse games out there than GTA, but at the time GTA III came out there was nothing like it, and its popularity caused a mass panic among parents everywhere. Now many of the kids who played these games are parents themselves, and it will be curious to see how they€™ll react to their kids own attempts to play the next game in the GTA franchise.
