10 Convoluted Video Game Levels Everyone Got Lost In
1. The Water Temple - The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time
Could anything else really be #1?
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time's Water Temple is the most infamously demanding maze-style level in gaming history, a challenge so absurdly heightened compared to the rest of the game that it prompted many young players to nope out - or get their older brother to do it.
Of all the many dungeons in the series' history, the Water Temple has earned a unique brand of contempt among players who still bear its scars over 20 years later.
Those who slogged through the original N64 version had to fuss about with equipping and un-equipping Link's Iron Boots in order to sink to the bottom or float to the surface, allowing them to raise and lower the water levels as an area required.
It was a sluggish, painstaking process where progress felt like wading through thick treacle, and just a single mistake could set you far back.
The worst thing you can say about it is that it just isn't fun - it's dread-inducing homework in an otherwise masterful video game, and the example of level design that's complex without being clever or enjoyable.
