10 Cringiest Video Game Moments You Wish You Could Forget
4. Wii Music
It's impossible to think about Nintendo without Shigeru Miyamoto. The creative genius behind Super Mario, The Legend Of Zelda, and countless other iconic titles, Miyamoto has forged one of the greatest legacies within the industry.
However, not even a developer of Miyamoto's calibre is infallible. One of his rare but more notable slip-ups came while demonstrating Wii Music during Nintendo's 2008 E3 presentation.
Nintendo's answer to Rock Band, Wii Music allowed up to four players to choose from a vast array of virtual instruments to play a selection of songs together. In this live demonstration, Miyamoto took to the stage with other Nintendo employees (including then-Nintendo President of America Reggie Fils-Aimé) to perform the Main Theme from Super Mario Bros.
It became clear that this rendition was far from the upbeat melody that fans recognised within the span of the first few notes. Not only did the digital instruments sound like cheap MIDI files, but the presenters were completely out of time with each other. The result was a cacophony of cringe that that made the game look far worse than it was.
This underwhelming presentation likewise struck a chord with players, with Wii Music becoming one of the console's least successful titles.
