10 Cringiest Video Game Moments You Wish You Could Forget
3. Dante's Emotional Moment
Whether it's Arthur Morgan's last moments or Aerith's tragic demise in the original Final Fantasy VII, video games are full of heartbreaking death scenes that stick with players long after the credits roll.
One that missed the mark, however, was Trish's self-sacrifice in Devil May Cry.
After throwing herself into the path of a powerful attack to save Dante, the hero crouches by her lifeless body to deliver what was supposed to be a heart-wrenching monologue.
The scene starts strong with tender piano and strings accompanying Dante's sombre words. However, this sequence turns from touching to terrible when the grieving hero exclaims the now infamous line: "I should have been the one to fill your dark soul with light!"
From the corniness of the line and its over-the-top delivery to the overly melodramatic way his voice echoes as the music swells to its crescendo, nothing about this moment works. What makes it especially cringe-inducing, though, is the comically exaggerated voice crack that's heard as the hero projects his angst-fuelled grief towards the sky.
While there are horrible voice lines that are adored for having an endearing charm to them, there are no redeeming qualities for this unintentionally hilarious moment.
