10 Critically-Acclaimed 2013 Video Games (With Major Gameplay Flaws)

1. Combat Problems - Bioshock Infinite

Bioshock Infinite was one of the first really exceptional games of 2013, and it's since held onto that same level of praise. There was something so otherworldly about Infinite, yet so familiar at the same time. With a well-crafted story, some of the best art design in gaming, and an ending that still blows the minds of many, Infinite will remain in the memories of gamers for a long time to come. Infinite is in some ways uncomfortably offensive, yet it's so wonderfully crafted you can feel the heavy hand of intention all throughout. Combat is if nothing else flashy, with the vigors adding an almost unreal aesthetic to the unruly effects, and the skylines creating an immersive thrill that is still a highlight of this year in gaming. Where things go a little awry is the shooting mechanics. Combat is a bit touch and go, with some easy battles waiting around corners. What makes them easy is that the enemies don't ever really do much to counter you. The Big Daddy-esque monstrosities become repetitive fights, as are the waves of enemies that continuously bombard you. Also, although the vigors are flashy, they aren't nearly as useful as they seem to be. Even the weapons lack practical use, making it a far better option to just cycle between a few weapons of choice.
