6. Letting Guybrush Threepwood Drown

The LucasArts adventure games always set themselves apart from titles produced by the likes of Sierra and others by making it pretty much impossible to die, thus giving the player plenty of time to explore the trial and error nature of playing that often goes into the genre.

The Monkey Island series is no different for the most part, excluding one particular section of The Secret of Monkey Island where it is possible to kill Guybrush Threepwood.

Make no bones about it either, as this is the player choosing to kill Threepwood rather than making a mistake where he ends up being killed.

There is a scene in the game where Threepwood ends up getting thrown into the ocean while tied to a weird statue. Never fear though, as he has the ability to hold his breath for about ten minutes, meaning the player has more than enough time to get him out of the quandary.

Let that ten minutes expire though, and you will see Guybrush drown. You even get the opportunity to play around with his corpse as a result. There is no need to let it happen and it only will if you simply want to see what happens when he drowns, making it a very cruel act on the part of the player.
