6. The Origin Of The Grox - Spore

The cartoony life simulation game Spore is all about making light of the history of evolution. However, once the player reaches the end of the game, things take a pretty dark turn.

Easily the most recognizable species in Spore, the Grox are a super-advanced civilization of cyborgs that serve as both the main antagonists of the game as well as its greatest mystery. They are inherently hostile to all lifeforms in the galaxy, and every single faction you encounter is afraid of them.

Very little is known about the Grox, but the ancient records the player can find mention that their species was created as some kind of experiment that turned rogue and started exterminating entire civilizations.

The Galactic Adventures DLC even has a mission that lets you experience a Grox invasion firsthand. Their motherships, equipped with life-destroying toxins and ravenous hordes of cyborgs, look so different from the typically cartoonish style of Spore that you would almost think they belonged in Mass Effect.

The most disturbing part of Grox's lore, however, is that you never learn who created them. Their makers' existence was completely eradicated from the galaxy, making you wonder what the Grox are truly capable of.
