10 Deliberate Gameplay Features That Ruin Your Immersion

2. Repeated Character Models

I'm sure creating detailed character models is a long and strenuous job, but when the alternative is every other person going around with the exact same face and clothes, doesn't logic tell you that it's the lesser of two evils here?

Open world games are especially guilty of this unfortunate habit. The more characters there are, the better the chance they're going to be wearing the face of someone you've already seen before. Literally, for all you know. At least that would be a more satisfying explanation than the developers pressing Copy and Paste a few hundred times.

This doesn't just apply to human characters, either. Isn't it a marvellous coincidence that all those enemies coming towards you have sores and wounds in the exact same places? Why, it's almost as if they're all the same model!

If the scope of a game calls for lots of unique characters, then that's what has to be done, otherwise there's your immersion straight out the window. Let's never again have to say to ourselves, "Say, good sir, haven't I met you before? Oh wait, no, you just look and act identical to them in every way. My mistake."
