10 Demos BETTER Than The Actual Game
3. Shadow Complex (Unpatched)
OK, this one's a bit of a cheat.
The full version of Shadow Complex - a 2009 MetroidVania released before the genre's cup ranneth over - is undoubtedly better than its demo. More guns, more enemies, more locations, and even more Nolan North make the complete version of Shadow Complex far superior to the somewhat anaemic demo.
Well, unless you factor in that the demo accidentally included the entire game for free. (To be fair, Shadow Complex isn't the only game in history to accidentally give everything away).
All players needed to do to unlock the full game was hammer the start button when the demo's boss was going through its death throes. The menu would pop up, you'd reload your last save, and presto! You've just saved 1200 Microsoft points. (Remember, this was back when publishers thought buying games with pre-purchased points was "fun", instead of "arbitrary" and "irritating").
Naturally, Microsoft caught on pretty quick and patched out the flaw. The game's developers -a little known company called Epic Games - never recovered from the embarrassment, and survive today by producing obscure, little-known indie games.
