10 Most Disappointing Video Game Endings

10. Rage

You don't hear a whole lot about iD Software's other games, do you? The Doom games is the well from which pretty much the whole first person shooter genre sprang from, and the long-gestating third in the series ended up being almost as big a hit as the original, bringing the space horror into the third dimension and scaring the pants off of everyone in the process. Their follow up was a new property called Rage, which took the same engine and put it onto a post-apocalyptic Earth where you could switch from shooting to driving as quickly as...well, as a Borderlands game, against which Rage was unfavourably compared. Despite that, the game was generally well received...until it got to the ending. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDKhlRCxNQg The open world was well rendered, the controls were pretty solid, the driving mechanics actually weren't awful, surprising everyone. The story was pretty basic, but there was something reassuring about that. You were pretty sure where it was going, which made it all the more disappointing when it failed at that one job. You're going to save the world from bad dudes! At the end it turns out you've awakened a whole army to fight back against the repressive military government that control the world, and just as you're gearing up to finally take the bad guys down...it ends. Roll credits. It's like they cut the story off before the third act could even happen. Major gaming blue balls.
