10 DISASTROUS Attempts At Forcing Game Franchises To Continue
1. Gotham Knights AND Suicide Squad: Kills The Justice League
Batman: Arkham Knight was the perfect end to RockSteady's magnificent Dark Knight trilogy (apart from the Batmobile sections). Nevertheless, it was decided to keep the series going, since there was still plenty of money to be made.
However, fans were skeptical when RockSteady announced they weren't making supposed followup, Gotham Knights.
This instalment was in fact springboarding off the idea of Batman being dead from the close of Arkham Knight, but was its own release, devised by WB Games Montreal, best-known for the disappointing Batman prequel, Arkham Origins. When Gotham Knights received mixed reviews for generic gameplay, grinding, and loot systems, it was a sure sign the wider Arkhamverse should be put to bed.
But since a Suicide Squad spin-off had been in development since 2012 (and was teased in Origins), quitting was not an option. Although the teaser for Suicide Squad: Kills the Justice League looked cool (and was developed by RockSteady,) alarm bells started going off almost right away.
It may be unfair to dunk on Suicide Squad since it isn't out yet, but that's sort of the point. This unwanted sequel was supposed to be released nearly two years ago, but it keeps getting delayed.
All signs are pointing to Kill the Justice League being a disaster. Gameplay looks janky as hell, it requires a permanent internet connection to run, and Captain Boomerang uses a sniper rifle instead of a flipping boomerang.
Even though the developers feel obligated to release SS since it's been planned for a decade, they probably should've cut their losses and killed the project a long time ago.
